Senegalese-American
singer and producer, Akon is set to bring electricity to millions of African
households, through a project tagged ‘Akon lighting Africa’ – aimed at
redressing the problem of power in sub-Saharan Africa.
The
project will provide electricity and promote energy sufficiency in the
continent.
“The lack of electricity is currently a major
problem in Africa. A significant number of households in rural areas and even
urban cities do not have access to electricity. This is a real obstacle to
Africa’s Sustainable Development.” reads the website for the campaign.
The
40-year-old successful and influential musician is partnering with Azuri
Technologies to support the installation of solar equipment in households,
which will provide good access to better and stable electricity to the people.
